Epinephrine

By · Comments (0)

Epinephrine has been the catecholamine of choice for the resuscitation of the cardiac arrest patient. There have been many changes over the years with the dosage of Epinephrine. The ACLS algorithms continue to evolve as more and more research continues. Paramedics continue to strive to increase their rate of survival for the cardiac arrest patient.

As medical professionals, we must put our best foot forward to find other alternative ACLS medications. The rate of successful resuscitation is way below an acceptable percentage. The American Heart Association will continue to evaluate the effectiveness of Epinephrine.

Bag Valve Mask

As a health care provider, a Bag Valve Mask is an essential piece of equipment. The BVM is utilized to provide artificial ventilation to a patient who has inadequate or no respiration. The person using the BVM may attach Oxygen to the BVM to deliver a higher concentration of O2. The American Heart Association advocates using the BVM over the old method of mouth to mouth ventilations.

A pediatric BVM may fit a small adult, but the amount of volume delivered would be inaccurate. Please be sure to follow local protocols for using the BVM.
